Mothers from many countries, one network

Who it is for

A first year, in a country that is not the one you come from.

  • Who

International and multicultural mothers living in Italy.

  • When

A pregnancy under way, or the first year of your child's life.

  • Language

The first activities will run in Italian (level B1).

  • Origin

The project is open to mothers of every nationality and culture.

The feedback from mothers taking part in the first activities in Italian at level B1, together with the support of experts in linguistic mediation, will help us expand the project with a multilingual model.

The model

Not an app. A network of people, professionals and stories.

1

Health and social integration

A dialogue channel guided by health professionals and cultural mediators, delivering validated information that breaks down language barriers and barriers to accessing services.

2

The Community

Spaces for listening and exchange among mothers, to build decision-making autonomy and confidence in one's own resources through the phases of pregnancy and motherhood.

3

Intercultural storytelling

Expressive workshops to give voice to and work through the experience of birth and parenthood through multiple cultural perspectives.

The community

A network of families and specialists

We build concrete impact on inclusion, empowerment and the recognition of women's health identity in multicultural contexts.

M

Cultural mediators

Translating meaning, not just words: a bridge between families and local health services.

S

Health specialists

Midwives and professionals who offer validated information that stays close to the person.

M

International mothers

Women who share, listen and support each other through every phase of pregnancy and postpartum.

Healing Voices

Intercultural storytelling

Narration as a tool for independence and for meeting one another.

Interpreting and exploring the meanings of care, health and motherhood through a plurality of cultural perspectives is the central aim of the narration workshops. The value that emerges is collective, multidimensional and constantly transforming, because it grows from the exchange and active participation between and with the women of different cultures and backgrounds in the FelloWs community. Making health and care more accessible does not only mean building tools for fairer access: it also means recognising the value of health, care and motherhood in different cultural perspectives, and creating processes for health and social care in which different maternal needs are welcomed and heard.

  • 01

    Linguistic independence

Understanding what is said in the clinic, in the delivery room, by the paediatrician; being able to tell it to those at home.

  • 02

    Intercultural reading keys

What birth, motherhood and the support of family and loved ones mean in different cultures, and how they fit into the Italian cultural system.

  • 03

    Meeting without prejudice

Stories as places of meeting: people come into contact more easily, with curiosity and genuine exchange.

Forlì, the starting point

FelloWs sits in the pregnancy, birth and motherhood segment, combining scientific outreach and the centrality of the person. Not yet a constituted organisation, it grows in the FemTech sector in Italy as a project associated with Tech4Fem.

Who is behind FelloWs

My story

Hi, I'm Laura Ameyo Tosin Martins, Founder of the FelloWs – Women Who Care project.

I am an IT consultant and a former student intern in General and Paediatric Nursing at Sapienza University of Rome.

During my nursing studies and in hospital wards, I met the international and Italian mothers who inspired this project.

FelloWs is dedicated to them and to all the mothers we will meet along the way.
